180 Beekeeping 2010 05 01-02 006With stresses like loss of habitat and colony collapse disorder causing dramatic losses of honey bees, it’s more important than ever to work to increase the populations of honey bees. Whether you want to help bee populations, improve the pollination of your vegetable and flower gardens, or have a supply of local honey, beekeeping can be a fun and rewarding hobby or livelihood.

Learn the pleasures and cautions of caring for bees. Experienced beekeepers will lead you through setting up a hive, seasonal care, queen management, parasite control, and extraction of honey! You will explore the relationship between flowers and bees and learn all you know to get yourself started in beekeeping.

To get started in beekeeping this year, order your bees in February for a May delivery. We’ll help you start. We get our bees from Don Lam Honeybees. If you are in the Kalamazoo, check out Backyard Bee Friends for beekeeping equipment.
