Knife Making

Learning how to make tools is one of the most important skills learned in blacksmithing. Making knives is one of the skills many people learning blacksmithing are drawn to. In this class, you will make 1-2 small hand knives.

Instructor Tim Carr is active on the board of the Michigan Artist Blacksmiths’ Association (MABA) and has been smithing for 22 years, 15 professionally. Tim will show you the care needed in forging high carbon blades. Refine your hammer skills to form a knife blade, make corrections to the blade’s shape with the file, and develop annealing and tempering techniques to complete the blade. Mount a fine wood handle on your knife to add beauty and contrast to the steel.

Experience recommended.

Product: 1-2 knives.
