Make a Shaving Horse

Shaving Horse
The shaving horse in an essential tool for greenwood shops. Shaving horses are used to hold pieces of wood while the wood worker uses draw knives, spokeshaves, and other tools to shape the wood. It is a great illustration of early woodworking techniques.

Materials are provided for either splitting a horse out of a log or making one of rough-sawn planks. This project gives plenty of practice in hand work. Students will go home with a working shaving horse as a fine addition to their wood working shop.
