Small Grain Harvesting and Processing
When the prairies first opened up to farmers nearly 200 years ago, the importance of efficient grain harvesting became apparent. An acre or two of small grains can provide for a family. Learn to cradle and flail grains and move through the reaper and binder to the combine harvester. We will also thresh with updated treadle threshers.
Specialty grains are also increasingly popular within the local foods movement. This class can get you started with growing grains for a small local market.
The timing of this class depends on when the wheat is ready for harvest. We will determine the exact date at a later time.
Tillers has a scholarship available for people interested in learning more about draft animal farming which will pay for 60% of the tuition for draft animal farming classes. For more information, download the application here.
