Tinsmithing: Lamps and Lighting
This class will focus mainly on candle holders, while also touching on grease and whale oil lamps. The class will cover layout, cutting, forming, and soldering sheets of tin to produce various styles of historical lighting, while making them practical for modern use. Students will have several different examples of tinware to examine and will choose a project that fits their interest and skill level.
Chamber sticks, tinder boxes, sconces, betty lamps, and simple lanterns and chandeliers will be some of the possible projects that the students may choose from.
PREREQUISITE: Basic Tinning or equivalent experience.
