Where We Work
What We Do
Tillers conducts ground-based hands-on trainings and consultations in international rural villages, larger population centers, at our new learning center in Chimoio, Mozambique, and at our Innovation Workshop in Lira, Uganda. Subject matter includes the introduction or maximization of animal power, blacksmithing, woodworking, intensive pasturing and fodder, low-capital technologies, and more. We also regularly partner with organizations to fulfill their contract obligations. See below for a list of countries in which we have worked or currently work.
Southern Africa Hub
Chimoio, Manica Province, Mozambique
In partnership with Land O’Lakes International Development and the Instituto Superior Politécnico de Manica (ISPM), Tillers International established the Centro por Treinamento en Tração Animal Manica/Center for Animal Traction Training, Manica (CENTAM) in 2008. The site is our home base for trainings and tool innovations and testing in southern Africa. The CENTAM features a workshop where we manufacture hardware for our trainings, build and refine tool designs, and conduct our artisan trainings; cattle quarantine corrals; two dormitories that hold nearly 70 beds for trainers, trainees, and various staff; a kitchen; two thatched pavilions; and a bathhouse with showers.
East Africa Hub
Ngetta, Lira District, Uganda
Tillers established the Innovation Workshop as part of our partnership with the Cooperative League of the USA (CLUSA), the international arm of the National Business Cooperative Association (NCBA), and the National Agricultural Research Organization (NARO) of Uganda. The Innovation Workshop features a large indoor storage area and workshop complete with a blacksmithing veranda, fields for testing and demonstrating our innovations, a conference center, and the main office of Tillers Uganda.
