Event Details

Experienced the unique pleasure of donkey handling, hitching, and driving skills. Participants begin by learning how donkeys differ from draft horses and the distinctive characteristics that make them steadfast farming workers. Skills will be taught and honed with simple ground driving while progressing to field preparation and other farming tasks with a team. Topics include training a donkey, hoof care, health, and nutrition. Experience the pleasure of working with a donkey at Tillers International’s beautiful campus and start building your skills.

Rick is a first-generation Teamster with a lifelong passion for working with horses. Growing up, he participated in 4-H and developed his horsemanship skills, spending 25 years raising, training, and showing Haflinger horses alongside his father. Today, he owns two Percheron draft horses, which he uses for recreation, agricultural work, and logging. With over 15 years of volunteer experience, Rick is dedicated to community service. He has served as a Tillers board member for the past five years and has been an employee for three years, continuing his commitment to supporting agricultural and equine traditions.
