Turkey Wing Whisk Broom 

Morgan Pell is an interdisciplinary artist based in Kalamazoo, MI. She has been making things her whole life, but her most recent artistic journey began in 2017 when she and her husband Mark purchased a heavily wooded property with a run-down house that needed a lot of work to become a home. Morgan began taking classes at Tillers in 2019 to help her acquire the skills she needed to make functional and beautiful hardware for her home. She started in a Blacksmithing I class and then proceeded to take as many classes as she could get into. Though the skillset she acquired from Tillers has been extremely helpful in adding the character she desires to her home, the biggest benefit she gained was from taking the broom making class. Since that first broom making class in 2021, she has built a business and a reputation, and has found true creative freedom making and selling brooms. She started experimenting with using dyed Broomcorn in her pieces and was struck with an idea: what if she could arrange the fibers to depict an image on the end? Morgan began arranging the dyed Broomcorn into very simple images, but struggled to make images with clean lines. She spent over 3 years developing the techniques to make Mergstyle brooms, ensuring that every line came out just right, and every detail was exactly placed. She also dyes all of her own Broomcorn to ensure she has the quality needed to make Mergstyle brooms. They are not colored, painted, or dyed in any way after assembly.
