Learn the ancient art of turning stone into functional tools. In this hands-on introductory class, students will start with small flakes of flint and learn the basic techniques for shaping them into usable tools or arrow points. For those interested in working on larger projects, opportunities will be provided to spall or break down larger stones into flakes suitable for crafting bigger tools such as small knife blades. The second day will build on the skills from day one and will introduce hafting techniques. Students will learn to attach their finished stone points or blades to wood or deer antler handles using natural materials, including pine pitch, spruce root, and dogbane fiber. Beginner class (recommended for ages 12 and up).
