Many teens see blacksmithing in movies, video games, and online and become curious about this timeless trade. Tillers offers a two-day blacksmithing class specifically for young people ages 12 to 16, accompanied by a parent. This beginner class introduces teens to the fundamentals of the craft: fire tending, shaping, heat treating, and more. It is also a wonderful opportunity for a parent and teen to spend time with each other!

If you have taken classes at Tillers, you have probably met John Sarge. He’s worked at Tillers for several years in a variety of capacities. John mostly does metalworking, but he’s done a bit of everything around the farm. His goal is to help students increase their basic skills so they can start making things.
